SBS bus without a number

4 March 2010 795 views No Comment

I had a rare opportunity to board a numberless bus yesterday. The original bus’s air con had problem and so they arranged for this backup bus. However, the driver was unable to make the bus number appears on the LEDs. He tried and tried, then asked his colleague for help. His colleague, driving the express service of the same bus number, came over to help him. While the two drivers were examine the issue. Some people took the opportunity to board the express bus while it stopped with its door opened. After a while, a few of the passengers also took this opportunity to jump “boat” to the express bus. Unable to solve the problem, the other driver had to leave the bus to continue his service. Our bus drove one round back to the admin office. I think the driver went to inform the office people. Then the driver continue his service without the LEDs.

A driver worthy of commend

Along the journey, you get to see those people’s confused face when they saw our numberless bus. The driver had to annouce at every bus stop of the bus number. He done this by stating the the problem with the LEDs followed by an apology. There was no frustration or anger in his tone. He has acted professionally. Knowing the bus number, some of the confused faces broke into smiles and quickly board the bus.

Moral:

1. When there is a faster boat next to you, it is better to jump boat even at the expense of a slightly higher cost.

2. My old mum is smart enough to suggest to print the bus number and paste on the front window.

3. You are in control of your attitude
